Know your inheritance rights and responsibilities.

If you are the heir of a deceased person, it is important to know what your rights and duties are in relation to the inheritance.

An inheritance is the combination of assets, rights and debts that a person leaves after their death. The law determines who the legitimate heirs are and how the inheritance should be divided amongst them. In addition, individuals can also make a will, expressing their wishes about the destination of a portion of their estate. In this case, the heirs must respect the will, as long as it is valid and does not jeopardize the rights of the legitimate heirs.

As an heir, you have the right to receive your fair portion of the estate, in accordance with the law or the will. You also have the right to supervise the administration of the deceased's estate, to request an inventory proceedings to be opened and to apply to be qualified as an heir. On the other hand, you have the responsibility to pay the deceased's debts in proportion to your part of the estate, to cooperate with the inventory proceedings and to respect the rights of the other heirs.
